The Institute for Global Policy (IGP) is the research and policy analysis arm of the World Federalist Movement. The Institute is the primary peace education mechanism of WFM and seeks to promote better understanding about the UN and other international organizations. IGP also serves as a framework for WFM to promote debate on key issues of global governance in the media and other fora requiring a more neutral platform.
“The Institute is the primary peace education mechanism of WFM and seeks to promote better understanding about the UN and other international organizations.”
IGP was founded as the Institute for Global Policy Studies in 1983 in The Netherlands by four leaders of the World Federalist Movement, Satish Kumar from Jawaharlal University in Delhi, Jos Lemmers, a leader of World Federalist Youth (WFY) from the Netherlands who later became the Executive Director of the North South Centre of the Council of Europe, Finn Laursen, another WFY leader who is now a Professor at the University of Southern Denmark and President of the European Community Studies Association in Denmark and Lucy Law Webster, former WFM Executive Committee Member.
Currently IGP's research focuses on: federalist political philosophy and the protection of international peace and security, the historical development of global governance, international democracy and world federalism, proposals on the establishment of a UN parliamentary assembly, weighted voting in international decision making and analysis of current proposals for reform of the UN and Security Council.
