Head of Regional Coordination
The Head of Regional Coordination will be based in the Coalition for the International Criminal Court (CICC) headquarters office in NY. She/He will provide legal and policy advice to the Regional Coordinators and Outreach Liaisons and others to develop the Coalition’s global campaign goals of ensuring universal ratification; effective domestic legislation; international support for the International Criminal Court (ICC); stronger ICC networks; and supporting the integrity of the Rome Statute in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East/North Africa. She/He will give special attention to the CICC’s work in Africa, ensuring full development of campaign, capacity-building and public information goals in key African states. She/He will be responsible for managing the work of three New York staff members and 8-10 internationally based consultants.
She/He will help to assess global priorities, share lessons learned about coalition-building and campaign strategies between regions, discuss target countries for ratification and implementation, and review and provide feedback on work plans for each region in collaboration with the Regional Coordinators and Outreach Liaisons. The Head of Regional Coordination, in collaboration with the Regional Coordinators, will help to situate the political, cultural, and economic climate and local capacity of civil society within a global strategic context. She/He will contribute overall to motivating and sustaining the work of CICC members in the regions through the Regional Coordinators and Outreach Liaisons.
She/He will be responsible for vetting many CICC documents and letters and will be actively involved in preparing funding proposals and reports. She/He will facilitate the flow of information and input of Regional Coordinators to policy making at Headquarters. She/He will work with the regional coordination section to develop and approve projects to support members’ activities, allocate budgets in their regions, and make recommendations after consultation with Regional Coordinators on providing travel support to members for regional meetings. She/He will also facilitate the flow of information to account for and otherwise document the implementation of budgets allocated in the regions.
Some travel is required.
The Head of Regional Coordination will report directly to the Program Director and will work under the overall direction of the Convenor.About the Coalition
The Coalition is a network of over 2,000 civil society organizations from around the world, working together towards a common goal: the establishment of a fair, effective and independent International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC is the first permanent Court with the mandate to bring to justice individuals who commit the most serious violations of international humanitarian law, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. Requirements
Degree in Law, with specialization in international human rights or humanitarian law. At least 5-7 years of progressively responsible legal and advocacy experience. Knowledge of the Rome Statute for the ICC especially welcome; sound political judgment essential
Strong management experience
Ability to effectively lead a dynamic team with minimal supervision
Ability to oversee and provide timely feedback on a very high volume of work produced by regional coordination and outreach liaison staff at the CICC Secretariat in New York and in regional offices around the world
At least 2 years of experience abroad and extensive experience working closely with NGOs around the world
Excellent writing, advocacy, and public speaking skills. Ability to interact with NGOs from around the world, government officials, and intergovernmental organizations with tact, diplomacy, and cultural sensitivity
Dynamism, independence, and strong commitment to the International Criminal Court and international justice
Fluency in English and knowledge of French, Spanish, or at least one additional language. Arabic or Asian languages especially welcome
Exceptional English writing and editing abilities; and the capacity to plan and prioritize well and to juggle multiple demands efficiently in a demanding, fast-paced environment
